Layoffs Roundup: DivX; Fuse; ReelzChannel; Classmates.com; Exponential Interactive

-- DivX: The company has cut 21 people from its workforce, or just under 10 percent of its total staff, TechCrunch reported and NewTeeVee confirmed. The layoffs were across multiple departments and of of course, as a DivX (NSDQ: DIVX) spokesperson says, were "driven by the economic environment." Last week CTO/SVP Markus Moenig resigned just 10 months after joining. DivX's stock is currently trading under $5, though it is higher than its yearly low, which was just under $4.

-- Fuse: The cable music TV net has laid off about a dozen staffers, paidContent has learned. A Fuse rep confirmed that the channel did reduce its staff as a result a "realignment" of its operations this week. Fuse, a subsidiary of Cablevision's Madison Square Garden unit, did not say how many employees were let go.

ReelzChannel : The LA-based cable and online network is canceling its original series "Dailies" and laying off more than 40 staff as a result. The movie-buff show recapped the latest industry news and aired previews of upcoming films each day. Parent company Hubbard Media Group cited weakened ad revenues as the reason for the cuts, as ReelzChannel is one of the few networks that doesn't charge cable providers a licensing fee for its content. -- Classmates.com: Classmates.com and its parent United Online (NSDQ: UNTD) have just finished a large round of layoffs, says alarm:clock. Classmates.com is headquartered in Woodland Hills, Calif., and has offices in Renton, Wash., and Germany.

Exponential Interactive : Exponential Interactive, parent company of the Tribal Fusion ad network, has cut 8 percent of its staff. GigaOm confirmed the cuts with CEO and founder Dilip DaSilva, who said that they were necessary in advance of the big hit display ad spending has been forecasted to take in 2009. Founded in 2001, the company has been privately backed (and profitable, DaSilva says) for the past seven years.
